Special Situations

Our Special Situations strategy invests in idiosyncratic, asset-backed opportunities throughout the capital stack and across numerous industries. Lapis’ strong reputation for efficiency and certainty of execution makes us a go-to capital provider for time-sensitive situations.

Our Approach

Portfolio Purchases

At Lapis, we have a specialty in acquiring defaulted or distressed credit portfolios from banks and other financial institutions. Our long history in corporate and municipal credit allows us to act swiftly and decisively, providing banks with a trusted partner to resolve non-performing assets efficiently. Whether the portfolio includes stressed loans, defaulted bonds, or complex special situations, we are positioned to provide certainty, speed, and strategic expertise throughout the transaction process.

Bridge Lending

Derived from our core expertise in debt structuring, Lapis is able to underwrite opportunities quickly and effectively, enabling us to design and execute solutions when traditional capital providers cannot. We provide bridge loans to support mission-driven organizations, municipal entities, and related social infrastructure borrowers in need of temporary capital to stabilize operations, fund working capital, or address short-term obligations.

Debtor-in-Possession (“DIP”) Financing

Lapis provides DIP financing and Trustee and Receivership loans to support companies navigating Chapter 11 and Receivership processes. Our team combines deep credit expertise with extensive experience in bankruptcy and legal frameworks to shape financing solutions that meet the capital needs of distressed borrowers.

Medical College

A proposed for-profit medical college in Phoenix, AZ. Lapis provided the college with financing to repay an existing mortgage, complete renovations to its property, purchase certain furniture and equipment, and complete its accreditation process.

Renewable Energy

Lapis financed one of the initial Texas solar projects for a greenfield developer and long-term partner in utility-scale solar PV, energy storage, wind, and data center projects across the US.

Behavioral Health

Lapis acquired a set of bank loans for psychiatric and detox rehabilitation facilities in Florida and Pennsylvania. The facilities were sold via receivership auction to established behavioral health operators.
